Safely Make/Break Overhead Electrical Connections

MELTRIC Switch-Rated plugs and receptacles are designed and rated to make and break electrical loads in complete safety while providing users with significant protection in the event of overloads or short circuits. Special protective equipment and training are not required to make and break connections.

Quick Disconnection of Electrical Equipment from Busways

Qualified maintenance workers can quickly connect or disconnect welding machines, motors, and other equipment in complete safety. Removing the plug from its receptacle visually verifies the circuit has been deenergized. The safety shutter on the receptacle prevents exposure to live parts, enabling full compliance with NFPA 70E without having to wear cumbersome PPE.

Concerns with Typical Overhead Busway Connections

Cumbersome procedures and equipment required for
NFPA 70E/CSA Z462 compliance

Drawing an arc during plug removal is an inherent hazard
with traditional pin & sleeve and twist type devices.

After operating the disconnect switch using a "hook stick", a worker still needs to verify deenergization. Exposure to live parts is possible, so cumbersome PPE is typically required.
